Flamenco

1: La Chumbera: the location of the international school of Flamenco. Every Saturday for 7 euros you get a professional show with the backdrop of the Alhambra from the huge glass wall behind the stage. Don't miss this one. Located in Sacramonte near the cave museum. if you want a professional show and not for tourists; go here. The only downside is it can be quite impersonal in an auditorium. We leave from the Razmbutan every saturday at 9pm

2: The Chien Andalou: Every night, near Plaza Nueva. You pay around 6 euros for a show. Its set in an ancient water storage cave on the carrea del darro. There are also jam sessions there and an after hours bar.

3: Jardines De Zoraya: Get a free Flamenco show with yor meal, every night at 8 and 10 pm, good food, great atmosphere and an amazing terrace. The tapas is not to be missed. In the spring and summer there is a huge Carmen to eat in with the calls from the mosque nearby filtering through the lemon trees. 5 mins from the Rambutan

4: Eshavira: The local jazz flamenco bar just off calle Elvira, Albaicin. Impromptu jam sessions evry night until 3am and a professional show on Sunday. for 8 euros. It's free the rest of the time. A locals favourite.

5: Bar Flamenco: A cave in sacromonte which has free jam sessions after the paid show, usually starts at the weekends after 12:30am. Great for budget backpackers.

6:Cueva del gato: Near Elvira this bar has free flamenco shows on thursday and jam nights for the rest of the week, beer is free if you are jamming with the musicians.

7:Tabanco Del Tio Gregorio: 5 Euro Flamenco shows with amazing performances in a local cozy atmosphere.

Tapas

All of these bars serve free tapas with your drink. Every bar in Granada does free tapas. The ones listed below are a selection of the ones we especially love.

1: Los Caracoles: The best place to pick up a beer and a free plate of the Andalusian speciality: snails in garlic and butter. A Rambutan favourite.

2: Potemkin: A great bar in Realejo with Sushi tapas freshly prepared in front of you. The locals usually give you a free Flamenco performance depending on how drunk they are.

3: Los Faroles: The best bar in Sacramonte for vegetarian tapas. This is a cave bar and the birthplace of the Zambra, the style of Flamenco that originated in Granada. The los faroles family has lived there for 4 generations.

4: Tourcato in the Albaicin: Not only the best steak in Granada but great fish tapas. Full of locals if you are looking for an authentic touch.

5: La Higuera: A tapas bar with a central garden, good tapas and a romantic setting. a backpackers favourite.

6: Diamantes: Some of the best tapas in Granada, near plaza Carmen.

7:Poe: One of my favourites, cozy warm atmosphere and friendly people. nice choice of beer,with great tasting free tapas

8:Bodegas Castaneda: A traditional bar full of locals, which means they go there for a reason. Bulls heads on the wall and standing room only. great tapas but better to pay for a a breadboard full of cheeses and meats, cheap and central.

9: 380: The largest selecion of free tapas next to plaza Nueva. Choose from 25 plates. Lots of hostals take their tapas tours here so be careful you don't get stuck ion a huge tapas tour group

10: Bella y Bestia/Minotaur: We've put these two together as for 2 euros you get a burger, chips, pasta salad and a beer/softdrink. There are four of these bars, all near plaza nueva. popular with all the hostels in granada.

Nightclubs

1: Booga club: A live music club in Granada, 4 euros with a free drink, open every day of the week. Sunday is jam session night with various musicians. If you're good enough get up and play with them. The live music stops at 1:30am when the DJ starts playing.

2:EntreSuelo: Free entry, open until 4am and full of locasls, cheap drink and a great party atmosphere. They have movie nights earlier in the evening.

3:Pata Palo: Anyone who has been to Camden town in London will like this place, the alternative nightclub, in garnada, small, cosy and packed.

4:Enano Rojo: live local bands on Thursday, and a variety of different music genres for the rest of the week, free entry and a good crowd

5:Camborio: The after hours cave nightclub which starts at 3am and finishes well after sunset. Located in Sacromonte the view of the Alahmbra from the club floor is second to none, open Thurs to Sun, its popular with students.

6: Quilombo: Great for drum and Bass, a bit far from the centre but worth it, techno, house e.t.c, all depends on the night of the week.

Things to see

1: The Alhambra: Why most people come here, the Alhambra is only a small part of what Granada has to offer.. It has always been the lifeblood of granada and it still is as Europes most vivited national monument.

2:Palacio 'Dar al Horra': The palace of the Sulatans mother, it's a minimimilist Alhambra (excuse the oun) free enrty but only open on Tuesday and Thursday from 10am till 2pm, knock on the door for unrestricted access and great panoramic views of the city.

3: Hammam Andalus: An old Moorish Bathouse, free entry and a great photo. Just off paseo de los tristes. There is no wate there anymore, if you want a really good arabic bath in granada with a massage go here

4:Sacromonte: The birthplace of la Zambra asnd the traditional home of the Gipsies, it stretches into the countryside, just 10 minutes from the center.

5:The Albayzin: The old moorish quarter where we are located. Small whitewashed streets, Secret gardens and 600 year old houses.

6:Realejo: The old Jerwish district now famous for "calle Molinos"full of Street Art and some of the best pizza, tapas bars and second hand shops.

7: The aqueduct: This old moorish engineering marvel stetches along the mountain for about 3 miles. Walk along it for a great day out 5 minutes from plaza nueva.

8: The Miradors: San Nicholas is the most popular where you can also buy locally made handcraftes from the artesanas, one of Bill Clintons favcourite views in Europe. There are many more private and more beautifull viewpoints such as san Cristobal or san miguel de alto. ask your hostel in granada for more information.

9:The caves: Located on the hill by Sacramonte, these places house the hippie residents of the city. Beautiful and well equipped look on the other page of the website for more information.

10:Museums, free or very cheap they house the artefacs found around Granada. The best is in the ALhambra for 1.50 euro, on paseo de los tristes there is another which is free and full of old roman and Phoenican artefacts, the most imoperssive are the neolithic tools found in the valley next to Granada. Ask your hostel for the opening times and lists.

11:The tourist office: Unbiased information on where to find the cheapest flamenco shows and get free good quality maps of every city in Andalucia. Make it your first point of call. opposite Santa Ana church in plaza Nueva.
