The ancient Morrish quarter of the city, the Albaicin was home to another castle apart from the Alhambra in the 10th centrury. This is postcard Spain with it's white washed walls, huge hidden gardens and pebbled streets. With its old Nasarid palaces and its small winding streets, one can spend hours happily lost wandering through markets and countless plazas where you can take a beer with free tapas and relax to watch life go by. The sunsets are great from San Nicholas but there are better ones the locals prefer;The church of San Miguel de Alto is on top of the hill above the caves, the highest view of the city. Locals and tourists alike. San Criastobal; a lost mirador with fewer tourists, and a view as good as if not better than San Nicholas. Alternatively climb up to the old moorish aqueduct in Granada for a stunning view of the old town and Sacromonte. Rambutan is 5 minutes away from the heart of the albaicin 'plaza larga' where the ancient market was situated and where the old city wall still stands. The Albaicin has a huge selection of tapas bars and each with its own terrace, giant hidden gardens and breathtaking views. The rest of the city before you its hard not to want to stay up here forever or jump over the modern part of the city to the snow on the Sierra Nevada and the alpujarras beyond.
